Things to Do in Pender Harbour & Area
Hiking & Biking
Pender Harbour & Egmont are full of some of the most scenic hikes and mountain biking trails, ranging from simple lakeside strolls to challenging mountain paths.
(Please note: there are black bears in the area from spring to fall. Read more about bear safety at the BC Parks website.)
In the Garden Bay area, two popular hikes with spectacular vistas include Pender Hill and Mount Daniel. Both are on the challenging side (up and down) but are well worth the effort.
With the Caren Range standing sentinel at our eastern borders, plenty of exciting mountain biking trails are easily accessible at access points along the Sunshine Coast Highway.
Access to the popular hiking & biking Suncoaster Trail is also available at various points along the Sunshine Coast Highway from Egmont to Secret Cove. See the Suncoaster Trail information on the SCRD website, which includes maps and other information.
For a more leisurely stroll, take a walk along the boardwalk of the Iris Griffith Wetlands Park in Madeira Park, situated behind the post office and fire hall at the end of Gonzales Rd. The wide boardwalk, seats and signage create a quiet and fascinating place for residents and visitors to spend time.
The Skookumchuck Rapids hike in Egmont, BC is a must for anyone who loves hiking and who also wants to appreciate the power of nature and ocean tides.
Kayakers often ride the waves and show off some fancy manouevers, and if you're lucky, you might also see porpoises or sea lions enjoying the strong tidal waves!
Check the tide tables to ensure you're visiting at the best viewing time. The best viewing is at ebb tides, though flood tides are good viewing too. Large (L) and extra-large (XL) tides offer the most extreme changes, and excitement!
