The Pender Harbour Visitor Information Booth (VIB) plays a pivotal role in our community during the summer tourist season. It is a both a valuable information resource for visitors and a vehicle for local businesses to promote themselves. The Pender Harbour & Egmont Chamber of Commerce which operates and with the assistance of the SCRD finances the centre is working to ensure a successful follow-up to last year’s great season.
VIB hours - Open May long weekend then weekends until June 22nd and then daily until Sept 2nd. Hours are 10:00am to 5:30pm.
In 2008, the Chamber of Commerce and Pender Harbour Community School are once again working together to secure federal funding under the Canada Summer Jobs Initiative. This funding would enable the hiring of three students during the busy months of July and August. These are fewer students than last year; however, we are optimistic our own community volunteers will step in as Ambassadors to promote this incredible area as they have in the past.
This year, the Centre will take advantage of a comprehensive survey on accommodations conducted in 2007. This survey discovered that there are close to 600 beds available for visitors to the Pender Harbour, Ruby Lake and Egmont area! As well, we are undertaking to develop a means for B&B and cottage owners and resort operators to give us their up-to-date room availabilities. Our goal is to create an efficient referral program for visitors, operators and VIC staff.
There is no doubt we are well-equipped to accommodate all who come to visit us in the summer months and during the Pender Harbour Jazz Festival. With the Festival in mind, plans are now underway to cover telephones after Labour Day when the VIC centre closes its doors for the season. This will ensure that all our visiting jazz lovers are matched with appropriate accommodations.
In 2012, we ask that you join us at the Visitor Information Booth whether by volunteering time or by placing your business brochures in the racks. Help make this a year to remember at the VIB!
